Dissecting Advanced Medical Dosimetry: UNDIP Partners with Universiti Putra Malaysia Expert in UNDIP Global Classroom

SEMARANG — Diponegoro University (UNDIP) continues to strengthen its strategic steps in accelerating internationally reputable science education. Through the UNDIP Global Classroom (UGC) event titled “Advanced Medical Radiation Dosimetry for Medical Physicist,” the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) at UNDIP successfully featured a leading radiation dosimetry expert from Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (HSAAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Dr. Noramaliza Mohd Noor.

The event, which took place interactively on Monday, May 25, 2026, starting at 07:30 AM WIB, was hosted and moderated by UNDIP Medical Physics expert Dr. Choirul Anam, S.Si., M.Si., who served as the Person in Charge (PIC). The virtual discussion via the Zoom Meeting platform was enthusiastically attended by hundreds of participants, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, lecturers, and clinical medical physicists from various hospitals across Indonesia.

The Crucial Role of Radiation Dosimetry in Medicine In her presentation, Dr. Noramaliza Mohd Noor, PhD, who serves at the Medical Physics Section of HSAAS UPM, elaborated on the vital role of modern radiation dosimetry. Medical dosimetry is not merely the science of measuring radiation quantity, but a discipline that ensures every radiation exposure received by patients during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures is delivered with the highest level of precision and safety.

Dr. Noramaliza emphasized that medical physicists hold a key role in ensuring alignment between theoretical dose calculations and real-world application in medical treatment rooms. Given the complexity of current radiation modalities—such as CT scans, interventional fluoroscopy, and high-precision radiotherapy—advanced dosimetry methods serve as a non-negotiable foundation.

Participants seized this valuable opportunity to directly discuss various practical challenges in the field, including dosimetry challenges in pediatric patients, radiation measuring instrument calibration, and the use of Monte Carlo simulation software for dose calculations.
