The Physics Undergraduate Program is one of the study program in the Physics Department, The Faculty of Science and Mathematics (formerly named the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science), Diponegoro University. The Physics Undergraduate Program was established as part of the Management body of the faculty Mathematics and Natural Sciences (BP-MIPA) according to the Rector decree No.63 / SK / PT09 / 1988 in 1988. In 1993, when the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science is established, according to the decree of The Minister of Education and Culture No.0369 /0/1993, it consisted of four study programs: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.

At first, the learning activities of the Physics Department were carried out at the Engineering Campus at Jl. Mataram, while administrative and faculty rooms are in the Physics Laboratory of the University Campus Diponegoro Jl. Hayam Wuruk. With the completion of the building the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Tembalang, then since 1992, the Physics Undergraduate Program moved to a new campus in Tembalang today.

Starting 2016, with the status of the University of Diponegoro into Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Badan Hukum, the Physics Department is consisted of two Study Programs: Physics Undergraduate Program and Master of Physics. The latest accreditation of the Physics Undergraduate Program is Excellent according to The LAMSAMA accreditaon No. 139/SK/LAMSAMA/Akred/S/XII/2024.
