Glasgow, UK – The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has once again strengthened its international academic network through the 2026 World Class University (WCU) Staff Exchange Program. Under this initiative, Dr. Suci Faniandari, a lecturer at the Department of Physics, FSM UNDIP, conducted a staff mobility program at the DeepNano Research Group, James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, UK, in July 2026 under the supervision of Prof. Vihar Georgiev, Head of the DeepNano Research Group.
This staff mobility program aims to enhance international academic collaboration while advancing research in computational physics, quantum materials, and semiconductor device simulation. During her month-long stay at the University of Glasgow, Dr. Suci conducted research titled “Developing a Hybrid Quantum-Computational Scheme to Investigate Thermomagnetic and Optical Responses in Two-Dimensional (2D) Material Systems.” The study integrates first-principles-based simulations with quantum computational approaches to investigate the electronic, optical, and thermomagnetic properties of two-dimensional materials as next-generation candidates for nanoelectronics and optoelectronics applications.
A key milestone of this program was the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Universitas Diponegoro, and the DeepNano Research Group, James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow. The LoI serves as an initial framework for both institutions to foster academic and research cooperation in Computational Physics, Quantum Materials, and Semiconductor Device Simulation.
Through the LoI, both institutions committed to exploring various forms of collaboration, including joint research on hybrid quantum-computational methods for 2D material simulation, faculty and postgraduate student exchanges, the development of co-supervision programs for postgraduate students, and the exploration of research funding from national and international agencies. Both parties also agreed to evaluate the outcomes of this initial collaboration as a stepping stone toward broader and sustainable academic cooperation.
Dr. Suci Faniandari expressed that this staff mobility program offered an invaluable opportunity to build an international research network and open doors for long-term collaboration.
“This program has been a deeply enriching experience to exchange knowledge, develop new research directions, and establish a sustainable collaboration between Universitas Diponegoro and the University of Glasgow. We hope this partnership will yield joint scientific publications, expand our international research network, and open opportunities for collaborative human resource development and research funding in the future,” she stated.
