Universitas Diponegoro’s UNDIP Global Classroom (UGC) program, through the Undergraduate Physics Program, successfully hosted a public lecture titled “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” with the theme “AI Algorithms Using Python.” The event featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Setyawan Widyarto, an Associate Professor from Universiti Selangor (UNISEL), Malaysia, as the keynote speaker.
The lecture, held virtually via Zoom Meeting, provided comprehensive insights into the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and its implementation across various fields. In his presentation, Dr. Setyawan explained that AI has become a strategic technology driving digital transformation in multiple sectors, ranging from education, healthcare, and industry, to scientific research.
The material covered introductory AI concepts, various machine learning paradigms—such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning, and reinforcement learning—as well as the implementation of popular algorithms including Decision Trees, K-Means Clustering, and Artificial Neural Networks using the Python programming language. Furthermore, participants were introduced to developments in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision, and Robotics, which currently serve as the main pillars of modern AI technology. The lecture content aligned with the visual guidebook The AI Atlas, authored by Dr. Setyawan, which maps out the AI ecosystem spanning machine learning, NLP, computer vision, and robotics.
Dr. Setyawan emphasized that learning AI focuses not only on mathematical theory but also on the ability to build real-world solutions through Python programming. With this practical approach, students were encouraged to understand the AI model development workflow, starting from data collection, pre-processing, model training, and evaluation, to implementation in various case studies.
The event was highly interactive, featuring a discussion and Q&A session where students had the opportunity to directly discuss AI advancements, implementation challenges in the industry, as well as opportunities for research and international collaboration. The presence of the speaker from Universiti Selangor provided a global perspective while strengthening Universitas Diponegoro’s international academic network.
Through this public lecture, students are expected to gain a broader understanding of AI concepts and applications, while being motivated to develop competencies in the field of AI, which is increasingly in demand in this era of digital transformation. This program is also part of Universitas Diponegoro’s commitment to delivering international-standard education through collaboration with academics and researchers from universities worldwide.
